About Shutterscript

Welcome to Shutterscript! Shutterscript is an art form written with the light of the world as I see it, nothing more. Although we all live in the same world and speak similar languages, there aren’t any of us out there who perceive something in exactly the same way. It is my perception… my Shutterscript, that I hope to communicate to you through the common medium of light in hopes that it may serve you in better understanding yours.

About Me

Me

My name is Kalim Saliba, or Kal for short. I work as a professional engineer, but in my spare time I prefer exercising my true passion - photography. I like the way photography makes me think. In many ways it is very similar to how I was taught to think throughout my technical education, but in other ways very different. Both require creativity, patience, analytical reasoning, and asking the right questions. But the way in which they require these skills is completely different. Engineering is a very well defined and process driven objective activity (most of the time) while photography is much more subjective and less constrained by rules. It’s this limitless and boundless nature of photography that appeals to me most… the mental and physical freedom I get from heading out the door with my camera is unparalleled. And the perspective that I gain from closely examining the world to determine the “right” angle helps me in all walks of life, including engineering.

About My Photos

The majority of the photographs you will find here are evocative landscape and artistic photos. My pet peeve in photography is the photo that lacks emotion and thought provoking appeal. It’s true, any photo is worth a thousand words, but it’s the quality of the words that I like to focus on.

Some of my photos use a technique called HDR. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it is a relatively new field of photography which involves combining multiple differently exposed photographs in order to capture the full dynamic range of a scene. I won’t go into the details here (I will in an upcoming tutorial), but the end result is a photograph that looks surreal in its presentation… even poetic.

I recently changed the copyright on all of my photographs. In the past I reserved all rights to the photos and charged for both commercial and personal use; however, I have now made all the photographs (the old ones will become available in the near future as I have time to update them) available for free download for PERSONAL use. I am also making it easy for people to download the photos in a resolution of their choosing so that they may easily be used as desktop wallpaper without cropping or resizing them.

Those interested in using my photos for commercial use may contact me to obtain information and pricing.  The copyright license and information are shown below.

About My Writing

You may find writing that accompanies some of my older photos in the form of poetry or prose. However, I recently put a hold on my writing to focus more on the photography. This may change in the future, but for now the amount of time required to post quality writing is more than I have available.

About My Gratitude

Lastly, I would just like to say thank you to all of my supporters. This is something that I am truly passionate about and as such, I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to connect with different people who share the same passion (or even with people who just think it’s “cool”). I look forward to growing with others in the community and I wish you all the best.
